What have you been listening to this week?
What have you been listening to this week? You don't need to do a 6000 word review if you don't want to, but please write something! If you've just picked up some music, please update on that as well, we'd love to see your hauls :)
Feel free to give recs or discuss anything about each others' listening habits.
You can make a chart if you use last.fm:

It's been a long time since I've written anything here.
Mare Cognitum, atmoblack; this is the band where black metal finally started clicking for me.
Maudlin of the Well avant-garde prog; Bath and Leaving Your Body Map are an amazing concept album.
Mira, shoegaze; I heard the song "Space" late one night in college lab on a random radio station and it hooked me.
Moonshade, melodeath; don't trust the MA review, this band is legit.
Mors Principium Est, melodeath; thank you Andy Gillion for saving the band.
Nightrage, melodeath; while they don't do anything really unique, they're just a solid all-around band.
Novembre, prog/death/gothic; go listen to the song Flower. This band makes me feel things every time I listen. I don't have the words to describe it. There's a shreddit post about this band that initially piqued my curiosity and which describes the sound and history far better than I ever could.
And thanks for nothing Ville Viljanen for unceremoniously booting Andy out of the band after he did the majority of the work on their last album (statement also archived on reddit here if you don't want to read it on facebook) to replace him with the band's original guitarists.
If you like Andy's work, he also has 2 solo albums out: one from before getting booted (which was one of the things that made Ville mad) called Neverafter ("a predominantly instrumental concept album composed of symphonic, progressive and melodic death metal elements"), and one after called Arcade Metal (another instrumental concept album based on video game music featuring a bunch of solos from other guitarists, e.g. Matt Heafy of Trivium, Jeff Loomis of Arch Enemy, Per Nilsson of Scar Symmetry, Stephen Taranto).
Absolutely! It was because of that move that I've stopped following MPE for everything following Seven.
Don't forget that Arcade Metal also has 66Samus on drums.
I listen to a lot of Psytrance on my commute, and the winner this past week has been Psilocybe Project - some really nice tunes!
And just now I was singing my heart out (in the shower) along with No Doubt - Don't speak. Soundcloud generated a very nostalgic "station" based on that song, so I know what I'll be listening to over the coming days
I found this channel, Obscurest Vinyl. It creates AI-based parodies in old style songs. Here are some jams.
Rubbin' and a Tuggin' My Nips
It's Time To Take a Shit on the Company’s Dime
I Glued My Balls to My Butthole Again
I normally don't like this style, but it goes really well with the lyrics.
NIKI just dropped her new song, I loved her last album, Nicole, and I think that this is a wonderful departure from her usual sadgirl style. Excited for her new album this year!
Saw momma open for girl in red and I really dig them, mainly because I'm old and momma is basically a throwback to 90s alt rock.
Check out their song speeding 72 and callin me which really hit that 90s itch
Went to a concert with Orianthi. She has serious guitar chops in a variety of styles. However her voice can't compete with belters like Tina Turner or Ann Wilson. IMHO she should play backup or switch to acoustic or get a better sound technician. It was great music though
I am currently in a punk phase that I thought would've died out by now, but no. I never really listened to anything in the punk realm before; I recall when "London Calling" came out and I thought it was alright, but it just didn't grab me.
Recently though, I discovered The Buzzcocks and that has then led me to sooo much freaking good music. I am actually mad at myself for not tuning in sooner.
These two albums have been in the short list for a while now.
Buzzcocks - Another Music In A Different Kitchen (1979)
NoMeansNo - Mama (1982)
These are from the back half of "Another Music In A Different Kitchen".
Buzzcocks - Fiction Romance
Buzzcocks - Autonomy
Buzzcocks - Moving Away From The Pulsebeat
NoMeansNo are from Vancouver and this is their first album. If you like-a the bass, good lord, it's here :)
NoMeansNo - Mama (Full album)
Currently the new bongripper.
