    The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

I like Guy Ritchie, and specifically i like Man From UNCLE a lot. So I was excited for his re-team with Cavill. This was not good though. The longer it goes on the less I like it. I don't even think there's anything insultingly bad about this film. It's kind of like Operation Fortune, where there are some cool action scenes, but it's overall a dull film. It feels like Ritchie didn't put as much effort as he did with UNCLE, which was a pretty looking movie, and the screenplay is absolutely weaker here than it was for UNCLE.

    It's a nothingburger of a movie.

I really liked Ready or Not and I enjoyed Scream V and VI more than most. This was great. Even if you didn't like the Scream sequels this has more in common with Ready or Not. I think Radio Silence are good filmmakers. I like their brutal depiction of violence, their sense of humor, and their technical proficiency which a lot of horror directors lack. They're also good with actors, which is usually where horror directors struggle, and were able to get a good performance out of Melissa Barrera who I consider to be a very weak actress.

I think they're some of the best horror filmmakers around, and I like them more than someone like Ari Aster since these guys lack pretension and present themselves as pure entertainers rather than being self-important.

Monday I watched Black Swan again, which is still one of my favorites.

Tuesday had me on schedule with High Society (1956), which is a musical most-remake of The Philadelphia Story (1940). I think The Philadelphia Story is waaaaaay better. It isn't even a contest, even though Grace Kelly is perfect in all ways.

Thursday will be An American in Paris.

My main issue with musicals is that they're recording in a studio and looping in, which doesn't ever sound right. Why not record in a larger space or at least fake it (e.g. play your crisp studio recording in that room, record that with the mic, layer the studio cut over top etc etc.) -- anyway, it bothers me and I avoid musicals because of this. Bad ADR is the worst and I never understand why they can't seem to figure that out.

Yeah I don't like High Society but love Philadelphia Story. American in Paris is great though.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this. It felt like High Society focused on all the wrong parts and cut out a lot of the necessary parts. Like the flashback to the boat. Great cast, though. I could watch...

Great cast, though. I could watch Sinatra fold laundry, though.

I really like how they handled mirrors in American in Paris. It looks like they redid them in post -- and they look great. Is there anybody more handsome than Gene Kelly?

Just saw Spy X Family Code: White in theater yesterday and it was amazing! Highly recommend for any fans of the show or just anime in general. It's the perfect blend of slice-of-life mixed in with both action and comedy. The show has quickly become probably my favorite anime series in the last couple years.

I just watched Monkey Man in theatres, honestly an awesome movie, especially for Dev Patel's directorial debut. If you're into John Wick, Kill Bill, or old Hong Kong action movies, I'd recommend giving it a watch! It's fast, frantic, and I enjoyed it a lot. Shaky cam was definitely a bit high but nothing too crazy, imo.
