When I read about stuff like this happening and get to see how wide a company's reach is, I shudder at the idea that so many of them lobby for less oversight or regulation, as if they've proven themselves trustworthy.
This, along with every single medical/pharmacological/equipment homicide I've ever read about from Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Eli-Lilly, DuPont, BP, and so on, would make the most pro-capitalist turn real quick.
Im just so happy to see them paying out a billion dollars but NOT admitting liability or fault.. Good thing they dont do that. Hate to think they were actually culpable in hurting people and it pinched their conscience. /s

I'm also someone who used one for several years. Nothing more to do at this point, but the what if stress is real.
1 billion for 700+ lawsuits with more than 50,000 people involved. Why don't they make penalties based on actual profits made. This looks like a good deal for Philips imo, they can add it as legal expenses and move on.
As a Dutchy I feel Philips used to be such a staple hallmark brand in the electronics industry. They used to be comparable to Intel or Bell Labs for inventing new cool stuff out of their Lab division, which ASML (highly specialized machinery to produce chip wafers. Company now involved in geopolitical push and pulling) also became a spinoff company out of.
To think that mismanagement led to selling off a ton of their consumer product lines while donating their brand name. To then go on to solely focus on medical equipment and also just utterly embarrass yourself through the same mismanagement in place and now facing the consequences deeply makes me question what the hell they are actually doing out there.
