This post just convinced me to give Kagi a go. One question that I would have loved to see answered that wasn't in the post was their appetite to go public. Since they're currently profitable I'm guessing they're in no rush even if there's any interest at all. I'm mostly concerned about future enshitification, but I guess them being a PBC is somewhat of a reassurance that they're not heading straight there.

Thanks so much, that's what I was looking for :) Interesting that they let you hook into the API directly, but I guess it makes sense for what you're paying.

Are there any services similar in quality to Kagi that offer enterprise packages? Seems that Kagi's enterprise offering is AI powered internal search. I work at a tech company so web searching is an important part of almost every role, and as Google's search results decline it would make sense for a company to want to invest in improving web searches for their employees.

Very interesting changes. I also used to play and just watch now. As much as the more recent game play elements add more enjoyment for players I feel they are a detriment for viewers. Used to be much easier for me to keep up with changes in the past since heroes would usually just get tweaked and only a few would undergo major changes on a new patch, but now it's much harder with the introduction of talents and neutral items. I'm not complaining though, basic game play is consistent enough that I can mostly follow a game without having to read or play.

This was going to be my answer, usually I'm more interested in knowing whether someone is able to work through a problem rather than whether they have some specific knowledge (Even though some baseline knowledge would still be required).

A couple of questions that may be worth asking in a pre-screen are "What is the difference between asymmetric and symmetric cryptography?" or "Tell me step by step what is involved in a browser displaying a website". Both sound simple but they tackle concepts with intricacies which are not always intuitive, so are a good indicator of their technical competencies.

I've had this exact same experience, but haven't been able to find a good prompt to work reliably. By default I usually get back a few paragraphs of very formal text when I just want something that sounds nice in a couple of sentences. But when it works I feel it takes a weight of my shoulders, there's a bit of anxiety when I send these messages raw as I'm not sure how it will be perceived even though my intent is good.

There's a great game that hits on most of the points that you mentioned except for the story and narrative part. While there is a story, it's not the strong point of the game. More often than not you're ignoring that and doing your own thing. The game is Horizon's Gate, it's an RPG with exploration, survival, combat (Can be tweaked to your liking but I found the defaults a good challenge), you have your own fleet of ships and crew to manage but there's no base building, while you can do some building in specific spaces these are not quite your base.

I was completely surprised because I wasn't expecting much, but it's one of the best games I've played in a few years (Probably since Subnautica). Another bonus is that there are heaps of mods ready to install through Steam Workshop that add interesting bits to the game, there's even some that seem to add big quests that could satisfy your narrative/story needs.

Seconding Glacier, I have a decent chunk of data there and only pay 11 cents a month for storage. My process is currently very manual though so I will look into duplicity, thanks for the suggestion.

I got my master's degree online and feel a bit ambivalent about it. I had been working in the industry for a few years already so there wasn't heaps of general knowledge I acquired, though I did learn some useful stuff on specific niche topics (Nothing that I've used at work but interesting stuff to know).

I don't think I could have done it in person as I was working at the same time, and while it was sometimes challenging to feel that I didn't have much time to myself, I managed to find a good balance in the end.

Not sure I would do something like that again other than if I simply wanted to gain knowledge in an area, because that degree I feel has done nothing for my career. I can tick boxes in forms that ask what my highest level of education is and I tell people I've done it when they ask me, but hasn't helped me get a better job or get paid more. Or at least not directly, I guess some of the discipline I gained from reading technical documentation and balancing workloads has helped me be a better worker.

I can add some context here. Medellín has become a good tourist destination as the article mentions. It has warm weather all year round and visitors from first world countries would find that their money goes a long way there. And it's not just visitors in short stays but digital nomads as well. Even though the official language is Spanish, many young people are at least able to understand English to a degree and there's a small area of the city that seems to be bilingual, this is usually where tourists stay.

Some go with the intention of being sex tourists (Prostitution is not illegal), but as well not many necessarily go with the aim of paying for sex but are young, like to have sex and will nave no trouble finding it there (No judgement here) as Medellín has some renown for having beautiful women. Generally having an accent and some money are enough to get you attention by girls there. Last time I travelled I heard of many stories of tourist being drugged, which sucks, but seemed easy to work around. If you have someone that's too eager to get to your place, that's a red flag. Generally the people there looking for a more genuine connection would be happy to meet for a few dates in public places and if someone flips out when you mention that, then you should avoid them.

It is a beautiful city and I'll be going back later this year.
