Plenty of people still drink following treatment but it is completely under control and not the other way around with alcohol controlling you.
An absolute miracle and infuriating how a medically proven way to reduce alcohol intake is not given more attention.

He was a massive advocate of it. It didn't work, he stopped drinking when he died 3 months ago, and I rarely saw him sober. I miss the dad and grandpa he could have been.I don't know you, and I truly hope that your alcohol consumption is under control, and if that drug helped you that's awesome. I'm sure it helps many people in ways I can't understand.
But please, don't say it's a miracle drug that will magically cure your addiction while allowing you to keep drinking. Such a drug doesn't exist. -

0xSim LinkI tried Diablo IV again, because the description of the new season "Loot Reborn" looked interesting , and goddamn was it a good idea. Blizzard made many changes regarding the loot, itemization, and crafting (and I suspect, leveling speed). They also had the good idea to finally add helltides to lower difficulty levels. Helltides are periodic events (like once an hour?) where a whole region is invaded by Hell and there are tons of mobs, bosses, and special chests. This change alone makes the leveling to 50 much less of a chore. I am discovering mechanics that I never bothered to try before because the game was too boring to even hit 50 with a seasonal character. I think I played more in 5 days than since the game came out last year.
Tangentially, I'm also slowly migrating from Windows to Linux (Mint), and the game runs pretty well after a small fix for missing textures (see protondb comments). There are heavy framerate drops when the screen gets really busy, but I need to compare with Windows. Otherwise, full 60fps with raytracing, which was also recently improved iirc.

Shared hosting goes hand-in-hand with PHP's bad reputation: it's not that the language is necessarily bad,...they were running it on a shared PHP hosting and the provider just upgraded to PHP 8 one fine day without informing anyone!

Shared hosting goes hand-in-hand with PHP's bad reputation: it's not that the language is necessarily bad, but it's a low-hanging fruit because it's so easy to setup on shared hosting, and then, inevitably and without any intervention of your part, it breaks.
I guess, the lesson here also comes down to stop using shared PHP hosting?
That, or choose a host that does their work correctly and warns its clients several times and months in advance of major updates.

0xSim Link ParentYou don't update production services to a major version of your language/framework/runtime without understanding what you need to change in your codebase, and thorough testing. That goes for all...It's an easy fix for developer but in this case, production code comes to a standstill the moment they upgrade to PHP 8.

IMO this change is for the better, and like unkz said, for now it's only deprecated and just a flag away to let you time to update your codebase.

0xSim LinkI'm back on Assassin's Creed Origins. I started to play last summer on the Steam Deck, then forgot about it for months and only picked it up again a few weeks ago on my desktop. It can be played...I'm back on Assassin's Creed Origins.
I started to play last summer on the Steam Deck, then forgot about it for months and only picked it up again a few weeks ago on my desktop. It can be played for short sessions of 30 minutes and there's always something to do, though I'm trying to not let myself too distracted by the side quests and collect-a-thons. Overall this game is a nice surprise: the AC Ezio trilogy are among my favorite games, and AC3 and 4 were huge disappointments. I did not expect to like another AC game, but Origins has a likeable protagonist and the story is "good enough" for a video game.
Lots of places to explore and things to do without getting bored (yet), action, stealth, a crafting system that doesn't require a boring grind, casual enough to not get frustrated... I can't ask more of an AAA game.

0xSim LinkAfter (too) many years, I reinstalled Towerfall on a whim, to play with the kids and wife. And damn is this game still excellent. Zero time to setup, 3 buttons, and here we go. I recommend to use the "unlock all" cheat code to get all characters and levels without grinding solo for hours; it's a party game after all.
You can assign as many bonuses or maluses on individual players to even the field, which allowed my 5 years old daughter to win a game.
We played on the Switch, but if you own it on PC, it works very well with "Steam Remote Play Together" for online sessions (if all players have a controller).

I find that quite terrible because while I really like the genre (Bloodborne my beloved), you can miss entire parts of the game & gameplay if you're not the kind of player who obsessively try and read everything.
And mind you, Elden Ring is the most player-friendly game of the lot.

0xSim LinkI've been told that kids don't progress at the same pace in all areas, and I've seen both my children grow differently despite being in the same environment. Your kid can very well walk super...he is crushing his physical and cognitive milestones way ahead of schedule, but he has a handful of social milestones he hasn't hit yet.

Edit: also, you'll always be sick. Always. Don't believe people who say "oh he'll built his immunity in school", that's a lie. He'll come back with a cold and pass it to everyone. Good luck.

I tried to activate the ray tracing in a few games and honestly I'm not impressed. I couldn't manage to keep the vsync enabled and the added input latency made everything floaty. All that for a few pretty lighting effects, definitely not worth it.
Upgrades used to feel exciting because new games were genuinely prettier. Nowadays they're just more demanding, and I think we passed some point of diminishing returns for graphics.
