The "family" stuff is excerpted from a novella, and serves to introduce the readers (and viewers) to Laconia. It, too, pays off in the later books.
The show, by and large, is an excellent and mostly faithful adaptation of its source material. One of the writers served as a producer throughout the run.
If this sounds disappointing to you, you could probably skip the books. But I highly recommend them personally. They're quite good, and deliberately written to an end rather than carrying on forever. If and when the show is picked back up, they've got three, maybe four seasons left to adapt.

Drewbahr Link ParentI dig Trigun, as well as Outlaw Star (which was also often mentioned in the same breath, back in the day), but I don't feel like either of them have aged as well as Cowboy Bebop. Also, Trigun and...I dig Trigun, as well as Outlaw Star (which was also often mentioned in the same breath, back in the day), but I don't feel like either of them have aged as well as Cowboy Bebop.
Also, Trigun and Outlaw Star both have a notable lack of Yoko Kanno and The Seatbelts.

There's also a substantial time jump where they left things, so if they did adapt the last books, they could do it with any set of actors they wish. It's honestly kind of refreshing that they made no compromise in the story.

I've got two young kids, and I'm having the hardest damn time: Trying to figure out what to say when the reality of the world they're born into hits them; Trying to figure out...I feel the same way. I've got two young kids, and I'm having the hardest damn time:
- Trying to figure out what to say when the reality of the world they're born into hits them;
- Trying to figure out what I can do to mitigate as much damage as I can;
- Realizing that no matter what I do, it is a drop in a very, very large bucket and will have ultimately little to no significant impact;
- Trying to vote for the best possible choices to better implement the climate-related changes I want to see;
- Realizing that those needs are also counterbalanced by other political realities;
- Realizing that while governments don't seem to be taking this very-real threat with the seriousness and urgency it demands, I also don't want it to be a wild-west free-for-all, where only rich people can implement uneven and untested changes;
- Other things, I'm sure.
This is all too big, and at times I feel very, very ashamed and guilty for having had children - knowing what is in store for them, and their potential children.

Hades (the first one), I think, is the only game I've ever paid into for Early Access - and I do not regret having done so.
I've played everything they've put out, and they've all been fantastic. Granted, it only takes one stinker to ruin that goodwill, but I have little reason to doubt them as it stands.

It should also be noted that that single person at one event does not represent the whole of the movement against the Israeli government given their actions in Gaza.
Both of those things should go without saying, but ... here we are.

I'm also not certain how we, as a nation, would ever get past our past without some form of "compelled speech" as you've put it. Affirmative Action could be viewed as compelled speech, as could the ADA.

I hate to Godwin the discussion, but it would be like looking at the design and engineering...Looking at hate speech and bigotry purely from a "design perspective" misses the point, in my opinion. I hate to Godwin the discussion, but it would be like looking at the design and engineering of gas chambers without acknowledging what they were used for. Extreme example, I know.
99PI is free to make any mistakes they want, and they will surely make others. This particular mistake grated against my personal beliefs in such a way that I no longer wish to extend them the benefit of that doubt.

They are also harmful, and dangerous when the "wrong people" consume them. I hate to invoke him, but Alex Jones is a prime example - his work is so over-the-top and absurd that it's hard to imagine anyone takes it seriously. And yet, there are people that do, and they have been harassing the families of the victims of Sandy Hook for over a decade.
Ultimately, we're free to have differing opinions of what we listened to.

I, for one, felt that their coverage viewed them as these quirky little curiosities, while conveniently hand-waving the fact that they are incredibly bigoted, racist, and xenophobic.
The article as a whole reads like "love him or hate him, you've got to hand it to him - his work is popular!"
Case in point:
To this day his company gets tons of orders from missionaries. Evangelicals still participate in a time-honored practice that they call “tract bombing” – where they swarm your neighborhood, sometimes at night, and flood it with hundreds of booklets on windshields and doorknobs, in mailboxes, and under your front door. And when you wake up, it’s as if Chick Tracts have rained down like one of The Ten Plagues. Chick Tracts have been an undeniable, uncontainable source of viral hate. Over the years, Jack’s focus intensified from general moral decay, to much uglier and more detailed yarns about homosexuality and pretty much all non-Protestant religions. But – there’s still something about the artist and his weird little comic books that’s interesting and even alluring, even to his critics.

We might not have called it that, but it's what we've done with CO2 emissions, large scale...I, and many others, would argue that we have been geoengineering for decades... Centuries even. The long standing history of the United States overthrowing governments might be an inspiration unto itself.
Hawaii is a state because a handful of businesses decided to overthrow its monarchy, for example. And let's not forget the origins of the term "Banana Republic".
